Mystery box was fun

Got the Amateur Extra Mystery Box a couple weeks ago. It was pretty fun to open, like a surprise present. Got a nice SWR meter and some coaxial cable, which I actually needed. Shipping took a little bit, but nothing crazy. Everything arrived safe and sound. Happy with it overall.

Good box, detailed contents

I ordered the Technician Mystery Box. The ordering process was straightforward on their website. It shipped fairly quickly, arriving in about 5 days, which was fine as I'm in California. The box itself was well-packed. Inside, I found a decent quality handheld radio, a programming cable, and a small antenna, along with some Ham Radio Stickers. The radio worked as expected after I programmed it with the provided cable. I also appreciated that they included a small reference card, which is helpful for new licensees. Support wasn't needed, everything arrived safely and as described. The quality of the items seemed good for the price paid.

Great value, good offer

I was looking for a good deal on some Ham Radio gear and saw the General Mystery Box. The price seemed really good for what was listed as potential contents. I used a newsletter sign-up discount I found, which made it even better. The box arrived and had a nice antenna and a decent power supply, plus some other small accessories. Felt like I got more than my money's worth, definitely a good purchase.

How fast does shipping usually take to like, California? Need some gear for an upcoming field day event.

N Noor Foster 2 months ago
From what I remember, it took about a week for my order to get to SoCal. Not super fast but not horrible either.

I'm in NorCal and it was pretty standard, like 5-7 business days maybe. If you need it for Field Day, I'd order with enough buffer time.

Is Ham Radio 2.0 the same as Grapevine Amateur Radio? Confused if it's two separate stores or what.

O Omar 1 month ago
They're basically the same operation. Ham Radio 2.0 is the brand, and Grapevine Amateur Radio is the company that runs it and the website. It's legit.

Yeah, grapevineamateurradio.com is where you'll find all the Ham Radio 2.0 stuff. Just different names for the same awesome gear.

Hey, thinking about grabbing one of the mystery boxes. What kind of stuff do they usually put in the Technician level one? Is it mostly like, accessories or could there be an actual radio?

G Greg Osei 2 months ago
Yeah, I got the Tech box last year, it was a pretty good mix. I think I got a handheld radio, some antennas, and a bunch of other small gadgets. Definitely worth more than I paid for it.

It's usually a good haul. They say the retail value is way higher than the price you pay, so you should get some decent gear. Don't expect like, a huge base station rig though, it's more for starting out.

Can I stack coupon codes at checkout? Got a newsletter sign-up one and another for a specific product.

T Troy V. 1 month ago
Nah, usually it's one coupon per order. Most places are like that nowadays.

Pretty sure they limit it to one. Sometimes high-value electronics or bundles are also excluded from discounts, so keep an eye out for that.

Anyone compared their tactical backpacks to like, what you'd get from Gigaparts or Ham Radio Outlet? Are they similar quality?

P Priya J. 1 month ago
I haven't bought a backpack from Grapevine, but their stuff usually feels pretty solid. They seem to curate good quality gear, not just cheap knock-offs. For radios, I'd probably go with the bigger guys, but for accessories, Grapevine is good.

I've got a sling bag from them and it's held up great. Seems comparable to other quality brands I've used. I think their focus is on useful, durable stuff.

I saw a Black Friday deal mentioned for ham radio stuff. Do they usually have good sales around then, or is it just small discounts?

S Shane H. 2 months ago
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are usually their big sale times. You can definitely expect some good deals, probably on specific items or bundles.

N Neil Bennett 2 months ago
Oh yeah, holiday sales are a big thing for them. Keep an eye out for Black Friday and Christmas, usually some solid discounts or special mystery box offers then.

What's the deal with returns for the mystery boxes? Like if I get something I already have or don't want?

R Renee Lindqvist 2 months ago
Mystery boxes are usually final sale type items, I don't think you can return them just because you don't like a specific item. That's kinda the gamble with a mystery box.

S Shane Beaumont 2 months ago
From what I've seen, mystery box returns aren't really a thing. You get what you get, that's part of the fun (or risk!).

I'm a first responder, do they have any special discounts for that? Or military?

S Sam R. 2 months ago
I've seen them mention a first responder discount and military discount before. You might need to verify it somehow, but it's usually available.

L Laura Silva 2 months ago
Yeah, they do. I think you'll find info about it on their site or in their FAQ section if you search for it.
